Τι είναι η ενδοδοντική θεραπεία (απονεύρωση);

Inside every living tooth is the pulp where its nerves and blood vessels are located. Various reasons can cause this tissue to become infected, resulting in inflammation, pain, abscesses, etc. Unfortunately, an infected tooth cannot heal itself or be treated with antibiotics alone, so in order not to lose it, it is necessary to proceed with endodontic treatment.

Endodontic treatment, which most people know as denervation, is the process in which all infected tissues or materials are removed from the inside of the tooth, the tooth is completely sterilized and finally sealed. It is a treatment that, if done under the right conditions and with the necessary materials and techniques, hasvery high success rates reaching 99%.

 

Alternative treatment options

The alternative to endodontic treatment is the extraction of the tooth with all the problems that this can bring.

If the tooth is left untreated in the mouth then we are at risk of major and dangerous infections and abscesses, pain, bone loss and finally tooth loss.

Do I need a root canal treatment?

Ποια είναι η διαδικασία που ακολουθείται;

Είναι μια διαδικασία που δεν πρέπει να μας αγχώνει καθόλου καθώς γίνεται κάτω από συνθήκες τοπικής αναισθησίας ώστε να μην αισθανόμαστε τη παραμικρή ενόχληση! Η διάρκειά της εξαρτάται από το μέγεθος του δοντιού (δηλαδή πόσες ρίζες έχει) και τη κατάστασή του και συνήθως αρκούν ένα με δύο ραντεβού για να ολοκληρωθεί. Σε δύσκολες περιπτώσεις επίμονης μόλυνσης μπορεί να χρειαστούν και παραπάνω ραντεβού και, αν κριθεί απαραίτητο, τη θεραπεία θα αναλάβει η ειδική ενδοδοντολόγος του ιατρείου μας.

Μετά από εκτενή συζήτηση με τον οδοντίατρο για όλες τις επιλογές μας και τη διαδικασία της θεραπείας ξεκινάμε με την ενδοδοντική θεραπεία. Απομονώνουμε το δόντι από το υπόλοιπο στόμα ώστε να εργαστούμε κάτω από άσηπτες συνθήκες και αποκτάμε πρόσβαση στο εσωτερικό του δοντιού. Εκεί αφαιρούμε όλες τις μολυσμένες ουσίες και αποστειρώνουμε το δόντι. Αν χρειαστεί, τοποθετούμε προσωρινό αντιμικροβιακό σκεύασμα και σφράγισμα που βοηθούν στη πλήρη εξάλειψη της μόλυνσης και ο ασθενής προσέρχεται στο ιατρείο σε επόμενο ραντεβού για να ολοκληρωθεί η θεραπεία με τη τελική έμφραξη του εσωτερικού του δοντιού. Κατά τη διάρκεια της θεραπείας θα χρειαστεί η λήψη ενός αριθμού μικρών ακτινογραφιών ώστε η απονεύρωση να ολοκληρωθεί με την μεγαλύτερη δυνατή ακρίβεια. Αυτό δεν πρέπει να μας ανησυχεί καθώς με τη χρήση της ψηφιακής τεχνολογίας (ψηφιακός ακτινογραφικός σένσορας) που διαθέτει το ιατρείο μας, η ακτινοβολία μειώνεται στο ελάχιστο.

Μετά τη θεραπεία, μπορούμε να συνεχίσουμε με τη καθημερινότητά μας χωρίς κανένα περιορισμό.

In our practice, each stage of endodontic treatment is carried out withuse of the latest technology and techniques. We have at our disposal the most modern equipment, such as the dental microscope, magnifying glasses(special glasses) for detailed vision in the center of the tooth,vertex locator apex id for accurate tooth length calculation,laser andspecial ultrasounds for sterilization as well as specialized machines (elements free - elements downpack, elements backfill) that allow us the perfect final occlusion of the root canals.

After treatment

As after any dental treatment we must follow the instructions given to us by our dentist. 

After the endodontic treatment, we must proceed with a permanent restoration of the tooth, such as a filling (seal) or a crown (case).depending on what our dentist will advise us. If we don't, the tooth can break or become infected again and we lose it.

Ακόμα και αν κάποιο δόντι επαναμολυνθεί μετά από μια ενδοδοντική θεραπεία αξίζει να το σώσουμε επαναλαμβάνοντας τη θεραπεία. Με χρήση ειδικών τεχνικών ο οδοντίατρος ή ο ενδοδοντολόγος μπορούν να επιλύσουν αυτό το πρόβλημα.

What is an endodontist?

An endodontist is a dentist  with postgraduate studies in the field of endodontics. He is specialized in dealing with difficult and complex cases. He has special knowledge on the diagnosis of the causes that cause pain and infection and possesses special techniques to carry out treatments on teeth with unusual structures and complex problems such as perforations, absorptions, forgotten tools, old endodontic treatments, etc. He also deals with treatment of complex dental traumas and has special training in the use of the dental microscope which allows him easier diagnosis and better treatment of the endodontic system.
